Mission Health Expands Health Service for Vulnerable People

Thanks to additional funding from the Tasmanian Government, on Monday 5th February, Mission Health will expand its opening hours, from 3 hours per week to two sessions per day, Monday to Thursday.

Mission Health opened in 2019 with one clinic per week. Fully registered with Medicare, Mission Health provides healthcare to the vulnerable in Launceston. During 2022 the clinic operated just 3 hours per week and provided 171 consultations, numbers increased in 2023 to 360 consultations.

The Tasmanian Government provided funding to extend the clinics consulting space. The intention of the new space is to provide a more informal and flexible fit out. This will support mental health clinicians, as well as other allied health professionals, along with case workers and support staff.

"Additional consulting rooms will allow for the clinic to see more people during the new extended opening hours, from just three hours per week to 4 full days per week," said City Mission's General Manager Client Services, Narelle Howell. "Healthcare is the right of every Tasmanian, yet many people experiencing homelessness in Launceston have not had access to primary healthcare." Read more
