Crisis Accommodation Unit

For over 15 years Housing Services has provided assistance and care for homeless men.

We offer a supportive and professional service where clients are encouraged to make their own decisions in regards to their future.

WE HELP BY PROVIDING:

  • A friendly, supportive and professional environment.

  • Staff, who will spend time with each person exploring the circumstances leading up to their homelessness and/or current situation. (These are people who will provide assistance in securing longer term accommodation to people who are in shelters)

  • Assistance in contacting drug and alcohol support services to provide advise, counselling or rehabilitation.

  • Referrals to counselling or psychiatric assistance. This assistance could be provided through Centrelink, Mental Health Services, City Mission Family Services, or other professional counsellor

  • For those accommodated in our service assistance by arranging furniture, linen or other household items through City Mission Family Services.

  • Linkages to other City Mission support services.

  • Case Management co-ordination and support.

  • Safe and secure facility

  • Nutritious breakfast and evening meal

  • Referrals to a transitional support service

  • Referrals to agencies who can provide rent and bond assistance.

  • Assistance in contacting gambling support services.

  • Advocacy when communicating with services such as Housing Tasmania, Public Trustees, Aurora or other

Orana Boarding House

(As from 23rd January 2013, this facility will include our crisis and sobering up services)

Orana Boarding House aims to provide:

  • safe, stable and confidential supported accommodation

  • individual case management to help towards achieving goals

  • preparation for a more positive future

  • independent living

  • coaching in life skills

  • organised referrals for other support services as required

  • care and a listening ear

  • an environment that encourages people to participate and be actively involved in employment, education and training

  • To encourage people into positive community and social networks.

Who Needs Orana House?

Anyone who maybe:

• Homeless

• Struggling with financial difficulty quiet room

• Experiencing relationship problems

• Suffering mental health issues

• Wanting to escape alcohol & drug dependency

• Waiting on the public housing system

• Needing to escape domestic violence

• Leaving an institutional setting

How can I access Orana House?

By referral through service providers such as:

  • the hospital
  • community services (DHHS)
  • correction services
  • homeless shelters
  • Anglicare Access Service
  • Mental Health Services
  • other non government organisatons

Nexus Boarding House

Located in the North West town of Latrobe, Nexus House offers similar services to Orana House for people needing supported accommodation in the North West.

A typical day at Nexus House may a number of the following activities: lacework

  • Monday to Friday: Up and showered by 8:30 am
  • Household duties after breakfast
  • Appointments or Case Management
  • Personal skills development
  • Paid employment
  • Further education or training
  • Volunteer work
  • Personal time: TV, reading, washing, socializing, etc
