Tucked right into the heart of the city, the City Mission Devonport Shop is far more than a place to find a bargain - it’s a community hub powered by compassion, connection and purpose.
Every day, the team - led by Julie and supported by Kathy, Laura, Robyn, Luke, Emily, Ruth, Andy, Sue, Leanne, Sharon, BJ, Lois, Jennifer, Karene, Jim, Cliff, Mark, Mary, Bec, Grant, Miss Mollie, Sheree, Julie W, Sheree and Kate - brings warmth, energy and a genuine love for people to everything they do. Whether it’s greeting regulars by name, helping someone find exactly what they need, or simply offering a friendly chat, the shop has become a safe, familiar place for so many in the community.
Among the team, Leanne De Boer stands out as the longest-serving volunteer, having given more than 20 years of her time to the shop. Her commitment reflects the spirit of the whole crew - steady, loyal and deeply connected to the people of Devonport.
This past September, the shop celebrated a significant milestone with its official relaunch - a moment that symbolised fresh energy, a renewed vision and the community embracing the shop all over again. The relaunch was truly a team effort, with staff and volunteers all pitching in: painting (including Sundays), ripping up carpet, moving furniture, reinstalling fixtures and getting the entire store back together in just two days after the new carpet went in. Even North-West Area Manager Simon jumped in with some muscle to help get the space ready. The result is a fresh, welcoming store that reflects exactly what City Mission stands for: dignity, care and opportunity for all.
But what truly sets the Devonport Shop apart is its impact beyond the shopfront. The team is deeply involved in local fundraising efforts, often rallying together to support important community events such as Relay for Life and other charitable initiatives throughout the year. Their commitment goes well beyond retail - they’re out there walking, volunteering, showing up and championing causes that matter.
Every purchase made in the shop helps fund City Mission’s life-changing programs across the North-West, creating a direct line between a simple act of shopping and real community impact.
