Christmas should be a time of joy, togetherness, and hope - but for many Tasmanian families, it’s a season filled with stress and uncertainty.
Rising living costs, housing insecurity, and everyday pressures mean that many parents are facing impossible choices: paying rent or buying food, keeping the lights on or giving their children a gift.
City Mission’s Christmas Appeal is about bringing hope to families across North and North West Tasmania.
Your support helps us provide food hampers, rent relief, emergency assistance, and gifts for children - ensuring no one goes without at Christmas.

Help fill our Toy Room with joy!
Every December, City Mission’s Toy Room becomes a place of magic and hope.
It’s where parents and carers can lovingly choose gifts for their children, privately and with dignity, knowing their community cares.
With more families seeking help than ever before, we urgently need toys and gifts to fill the shelves.
Each toy donated is more than a present - it’s hope, wrapped in kindness.
What we need most this Christmas
We’re grateful for every gift donated. To make sure every child receives something special, we’re especially in need of:
Building & Construction Sets (Lego, magnetic tiles)
Technology Accessories (Bluetooth speakers, power banks, headphones, gaming keyboards, gaming headsets)
Remote-Control Toys (cars, trucks, drones)
Movie Tickets, Public Pool Passes, Experience Vouchers
Board Games, Strategy Games, Card Games
Collectible Toys (surprise toys, blind packs, trading cards)
Skate/Long Boards, Scooters
Sports Equipment (balls, skipping ropes, sports accessories)
Musical Instruments (ukulele, guitar, keyboard)
Jewellery/Jewellery Box
Arts, Crafts, & DIY Kits (jewellery making, slime/squishy kits, painting, sensory toys)
Themed/Brand Clothing (socks, shirts, hats)
Books (picture books for young ones, novels or graphic novels for teenagers)
Gift Cards (EB Games, Kmart, Target, Google Play Store, Apple Store, clothing stores, etc)
Please ensure all toys are new, in their original packaging, and unwrapped, so our Christmas Elves can sort and distribute them safely.
Toys can be dropped off at our hubs (48 Frederick Street, Launceston or 55 Mount Street, Burnie), or at any Mission Shop!
If you can’t donate a toy, you can still make a life-changing difference!
Your tax-deductible donation will help City Mission provide food, financial relief, and emergency assistance to local families this Christmas.
Host your own Toy Drive this Christmas!
Why not rally your family, friends, church, workplace, or team, and run your very own Toy Drive? It’s a simple yet powerful way to make Christmas brighter for children and families doing it tough across North & North West Tasmania.
Whether it's a collection box in the lunchroom or a friendly competition between teams – every toy and gift makes a difference.
All donations go directly to City Mission’s Toy Rooms in Launceston and Burnie, helping local parents choose gifts that bring smiles and hope to their children on Christmas morning.
