Missiondale

Alcohol & Other Drug Residential Rehabilitation Program

The Missiondale Therapeutic Community (TC) is a 34 bed residential rehabilitation and recovery facility located on a 25-acre peaceful rural property near Evandale, in Northern Tasmania. The program is made up of four different stages, taking up to six months to complete. Residents of all stages live together in shared accommodation (lounges, kitchens, bathrooms – but you will have your own bedroom) to support each other through the program.

The “community as method” approach at Missiondale supports the Community Values which are honesty, self-reliance, responsible concern, work ethic and learning.

  • Residents are not able to have visitors within the first two weeks of the program, and phone calls are limited, giving residents the opportunity to settle into the program with few external distractions. Exceptions can be made for contact with children.

  • Residents can only bring what can be easily carried, there is a two bag limit. A list of what to bring will be provided following assessment. Personal shopping is available once a fortnight in the stage one of the program.

  • When you reach stage two, residents are eligible to apply for off property day leave. This leave progresses based on program stage and includes weekend leave once a resident has moved to the final stage.

SMART recovery (self-management and recovery training) is a Launceston-based program that offers a chance to work together, to examine and change problem behaviours including drugs, alcohol, gambling, food, internet and others. SMART is a practical and solution focused program using evidence-based tools such as cognitive behavior therapy and motivational tools and techniques. The group is a safe place where you can express yourself freely and respectfully.

The program aims to enhance and maintain motivation, cope with urges, problem solve and maintain a lifestyle balance. The group focuses on the present (looking at the last 7 days and the next 7 days) the focus is on the behavior and not the problem itself. The group will share practical solutions and the participant will set their own achievable goal for the week ahead.
