Building Futures Together: Celebrating Mission 2a Future’s Continued Impact in Tasmania

At City Mission, we believe that no one’s future should be defined by past challenges. That belief sits at the heart of our Mission 2a Future (M2aF) program — a mentoring service for people aged 26 and over who are ready to take meaningful steps towards a brighter tomorrow.

For many in our community, barriers such as unemployment, low confidence, or social isolation can feel insurmountable. M2aF exists to help people overcome those barriers through tailored, one-on-one support. Participants meet regularly with dedicated facilitators who help them set personal, educational, or career goals and develop a transition plan that reflects their unique circumstances and aspirations. From preparing resumes and practicing interviews, to building computer skills, exploring study options, or simply finding the confidence to re-engage with community — M2aF provides practical tools as well as encouragement.

The beauty of M2aF is that it’s holistic. It’s not just about finding a job. It’s about rediscovering confidence, building healthier routines, and creating opportunities to thrive. Every success — whether it’s a participant entering the workforce, enrolling in training, or reconnecting with others — is a step toward long-term independence and stronger communities.

Importantly, none of this would be possible without the support of the Tasmanian Government. We are sincerely grateful to Minister Felix Ellis and his department for recognising the impact of M2aF and committing to its future through funding. This investment is more than financial — it’s a clear demonstration of belief in the potential of Tasmanians to grow, adapt and succeed when given the right support.

We see every day that transformation is possible. People who once felt overlooked or left behind are now setting goals, achieving milestones, and building futures filled with purpose. And with the government’s continued backing, we can ensure that more Tasmanians are given that same chance.

Alongside our Mish Futures Mentoring Program for 15–25-year-olds, M2aF creates a pathway of support across generations. Together, these programs strengthen not only individuals but the fabric of our entire community.

City Mission is proud to deliver this work, but we cannot do it alone. Our thanks go to Minister Ellis and the Tasmanian Government for their vision and commitment — and to every participant who takes that courageous step towards building their future.
