Family Services

Family Services provides support to families in financial hardship to meet basic food, electricity and fuel needs as well as assistance to purchase medications, receive medical advice and supply vouchers to purchase furniture, household goods, clothing and Christmas gifts for children.

Budgeting assistance and the negotiation of clients’ payment arrangements and plans with service providers can also be provided if necessary.

Emergency Relief provided to families in financial hardship by Family Services is primarily funded by the Department of Social Services and assisted by a grant from Department of Premier and Cabinet. Additional support each is provided by local foundations, businesses and public donations.

Chaplaincy

City Mission employs three Chaplains across North and North West Tasmania. Chaplains provide encouragement and support to workers and clients within the organisation.

Our Chaplains journey with those experiencing grief and loss, assist those in conflict with others and pray for those that feel they lack hope or who seek spiritual support and/or guidance.

Morton's Place

Morton’s Place is a welcoming and inclusive place for people to refresh their physical, emotional and spiritual health. It is a safe place to socialise, meet people and make friends in an accepting and trusting environment.

Breakfast and lunch are provided at Morton’s Place on weekdays and for a small, affordable price, customers can enjoy a 2-course hot lunch meal. Additional assistance is also available, including counselling, chaplaincy, Centrelink assistance, budgeting assistance, mentoring, haircuts, showers and laundry facilities.

Counselling support was funded by the Community Support Levy through the Tasmanian Government.

Recently, a project to refurbish the kitchen at Morton’s Place and purchase new appliances has been funded by the Bruce Wall Trust.

Morton's Place

City Kitchen

City Kitchen provides a friendly place for members of the North West Coast communities to share food and fellowship. Currently lunch is provided in Burnie on Wednesdays and dinner in Wynyard on Thursdays. 

Meals are provided free of charge for anyone in the community that may be struggling financially, facing difficult challenges or needing a bit of company.

Donations of food from local organisations and members of the community allow City Kitchen to continue to operate.

Community Outreach Trailer

The Community Outreach Trailers are active in the Launceston area and the North West Coast providing the communities with sausage sizzles, activities for children and opportunities for positive interactions with others. These events run from 3:00pm – 4:30pm in the Launceston area and from 3:30pm – 5:00pm on the North West Coast.

This service which offers the provision of hot food, BBQ and drinks to the community is assisted by a grant from Department of Premier and Cabinet and funding from Motors Foundation.

Clients are also provided with information and referrals to other agencies should they require assistance. This funding also allows City Mission to attend events such as Day for Daniel, Anti-Poverty Week and distribute food to those identified in need.

Community Outreach Trailer

Prison Bus Service

The Prison Bus Service allows family members and friends wishing to visit inmates, the opportunity to do so. It runs on the second Saturday of each month but includes a second visit in December for Christmas.

This service enables prisoners to remain connected with their external environments and networks which in turn assists them to reintegrate with family and community upon release.

The prison bus service is assisted by a grant from Department of Health and Human Services.

Recycle your unwanted and reusable goods by donating them to our Mission Shops and other social enterprises. All profits made through our shops are redirected into maintaining and growing our client services.
