Volunteer Positions



As a retail assistant you'll be helping us provide help and advice to a broad range of people who love shopping in our Mission Shops. Duties can include stocking shelves, merchandising and of course providing great service to our customers. Shifts are between the hours of 9am-5pm and you have the choice of working a half day or a full day.

Warehouse & Logistics


Our Youngtown and Burnie Warehouses are the nerve centre of our social enterprise activities with hundreds of thousands of items passing through each year. As a helper, you'll be tasked with sorting and pricing these items so we can move them quickly into our stores to sell so we can continue to fund essential services and programs.

Working hours between 9am-5pm and you can choose to work either a half or full day.


Responsible for collection of donated goods from drop off points, you'll help safely deliver items to our warehouse teams for sorting and distribution. A C-class licence is sufficient.

Our drivers work Monday-Saturday between 7:30am-4pm.


We are always in need of people with a forklift licence to help our Warehouse, Uptipity and Burnie Re-sale teams move donated goods throughout City Mission locations.

Working days are Monday-Saturday between 8am-5pm.


Moving with the Mission (MWTM) is a new service offering an affordable removal service for people on a low income or who are unemployed in Launceston. As a MWTM volunteer, you'll help us pack up and relocate the belongings and household items of people in need.


As a qualified tester and tagger, you will be part of our team charged with ensuring the items we sell in our shops are safe and comply with all relevant safety standards.

If you love great food, great coffee and making customers happy, our retro-style Youngtown Cafe is for you! Open from 10am-3:30pm Monday-Friday and 10:30am-2:30pm Saturday, you'll be helping brew up a storm with our state of the art coffee machine and serving delicious treats for morning and afternoon tea, to help provide an outstanding experience for our Mission Shop customers.


As Mother Teresa said, "If you can't feed a hundred people, then just feed one." When you work with us as a Kitchen Helper at either Morton's Place or City Kitchen, you'll be helping provide a warm, nourishing meal for someone in need in our local community.

Mish Mentors (Youth Services)

Kiosk Barista

The Mish are seeking enthusiastic, passionate and personable individuals to add to our pool of volunteers, able to be called upon to operate the Mish Coffee Kiosk, including preparation of beverages and point-of-sale transactions. A fantastic opportunity to connect with community members from a diverse range of backgrounds. Barista certificate or demonstrable barista skills required, ability to train young people in barista skills highly favorable.

Music Program

If you have passion and experience working with young people as well as a background in music, then this may be the volunteering opportunity for you. We require volunteers to provide supplementary support to our Mish Music program. As a volunteer, you will build mentoring relationships with young people and support them toward their goals, which may include learning guitar, singing, songwriting and much more. Must be available Wednesday afternoons between 3:30pm and 5:30pm.

Mish Makers

Mish Makers is an innovative new program to provide a “makers space” above City Mission’s Hunta Gatha store. Local makers, artisans and craftspeople are required to come alongside young people, mentoring them in “making” and providing social support through life’s challenges. If you’ve got skills in sewing, jewelry making, artistry, woodwork or whatever it might be, and you have a passion for young people, consider joining our team!

Art Program

If you enjoy the process of art-making, consider the process of art therapeutic and desire to be a positive influence on young people, The Mish are seeking volunteers to assist with the facilitation of the Art Program. As a volunteer you will build relationships with young people based on mutual trust and respect, be involved in the facilitation of the art program and work directly with the Mish Youth Services team. Must be available Mondays between 3:30pm and 5:00pm.

Volunteer Driver Mentors

Are you a safe, experienced and fully licensed driver? Are you available for at least 3 hours a week? The Mish Youth Services is seeking volunteers to supervise learner drivers to complete their driving hours. Having a license can boost confidence and provide the necessary experience for young people to be independent and in many cases, secure employment. Vehicles and training supplied.

Our Chaplaincy Assistants care about the emotional and spiritual wellbeing of our people and understand we all experience challenges in everyday lives, whether it’s at home or at work. By working alongside our full-time chaplains and building caring relationships, our volunteer Chaplaincy Assistants are positioned to provide emotional and spiritual support to all within the City Mission team. If you have previous pastoral ministry experience and are suitably qualified then we encourage you consider applying for this unique role.

Administration Assistant


As a volunteer Admin Assistant, you could bring your organisational skills to support a small but enthusiastic administration team in a variety of ways. The range of tasks could include: data entry, rostering, filing and answering phone calls, among other duties.

Fundraising & Marketing

Virtual Volunteer


Here's the perfect role if you have limited time or are restricted in your capacity to travel to volunteer with us. Our virtual volunteers work from home with the flexibility to complete tasks around other busy life demands. These roles are administration-based so if you have some spare time, your own PC, internet connection and experience using Microsoft Office and/or social media, join our growing group of virtual volunteers.

As a volunteer at Missiondale you will help our team in a wide range of activities including cooking, building and grounds maintenance, driving, cleaning and working in the garden. You will also be involved in sharing your knowledge and teaching our clients important skills in all those areas, including gardening, handyman and housekeeping such as making beds, cleaning etc. At present we need:


Help us landscape our flower gardens and teach our clients about gardening.


Handyman duties including painting, lawnmowing, general maintenance as well as teaching residents general handyman skills


Support our chef in the kitchen as well as teach the residents general housekeeping skills such as setting up rooms, making beds, cleaning etc


Mondays or Tuesday for a few hours helping us transport clients. Car driver licence required.

The friendly SnagChat team provides a free sausage sizzle and friendly chat for individuals, children and families along with emergency relief food and advice on the many services available to those in need.  Dependant on weather, trailer operates between 3pm – 5pm weekdays at various locations around Launceston.
