Youth Appeal launching at Little Italy
Posted on March 08, 2018
As part of Sunday's festivities at Little Italy in Charles Street Launceston, City Mission will launch its annual Future Hope Youth Appeal.
The aim of the appeal is to create awareness of the difficulties experienced by youth in our community and to raise funds which enable us to continue to offer programs that provide guidance, support and hope for the future for young people.
City Mission's Outreach Trailer will be on site from 11am operating a BBQ with all funds raised on the day going towards the appeal. Thanks to Casalinga Gourmet Meats, we will be serving up Italian sausages.
"We are pleased to be participating in Little Italy, it's a wonderful opportunity for us to launch our Future Hope Youth Appeal and raise awareness of our Youth Services programs delivered at The Mish in Launceston and through outreach in Burnie," said City Mission CEO, Stephen Brown.
"These programs are enormously valuable as they connect young people in the community and offer unconventional learning experiences which can increase their potential to engage with education and the workforce."
City Mission's programs provide young people with access to one-on-one mentoring, self-management and recovery training along with special interest activities such as music, media, hospitality and art.
"Our aim is to empower young people with hope for the future; we provide an environment that is inclusive, welcoming and where young people are valued. But of course, our capacity to do all of this relies on our ability to fund a team of Youth Mentors who work alongside young people facing significant life challenges," said Stephen Brown.
Research highlights the significant benefits and positive outcomes of youth mentoring programs, particularly for those that are at risk. Young people participating in these programs are:
- Less likely to use drugs or alcohol
- Less likely to miss school
- More confident about themselves and their future
- More knowledgeable about education, training and work options available to them
The Future Hope Youth Appeal will run until Sunday 22 April, donations can be made by visiting the Outreach Trailer at Little Italy, visiting a Mission Shop or via our website here.
