Each Friday night a team of volunteers take The Mission's Outreach Van and Mobile Kitchen trailer out into the Launceston Mall between 10:00pm and 2:00am. Coffee, soup and biscuits are served to the people we meet, who are often in need of a friendly chat or just a listening ear.
One of the exciting things about Missionbeat is when we no longer see some of the “regulars” on the streets. Missionbeat had a positive impact on Mark’s life.
Mark was 26 years old, an alcoholic who often drunk himself into a stupor and was regularly picked up by Missionbeat workers, who would take him back to the City Mission Sobering-up Unit.
Mark testifies, “The City Mission found me a place at Missiondale, near Evandale, so I would get off the booze and drugs I was putting into my body.”
At Missiondale, Mark was given ongoing love, counselling and therapy to work through his problems. During his 16 months there, he came to know God's love for him and was baptised at the Perth Baptist Church. Mark completed his recovery at Missiondale and now lives independently in Launceston.
Our teams meet many new people from all walks of life, and are often able to have good input into their lives.
We always need new volunteers to join these teams. Download the brochure for more details.
